Don’t Go Alone

There’s this story in Exodus 18 that you might recall: Moses meets with his father-in-law, Jethro—and they share a moment together. And Moses tells him the hardships that come with leading the Israelites. Moses’ job is heavy: the people come to him every day and he acts as a judge for them—all day and all night.

In response, Jethro says: “What is this that you are doing for the people? Why do you sit alone, while all the people stand around you from morning until evening?”

Moses sees a need. And he can fill it. But he doesn’t see a better solution: to bring others alongside him to help.

In the same way, being a believer in business can be lonely... but it doesn’t need to be that way.

In Jethro’s words: “The task is too heavy for you; you cannot do it alone.”

We believe that God has called us to be found in community and among like-minded people who can build us up—and that includes Christ-followers in business. That’s why our community platform, the Network exists—as a space for Canadians to connect, collaborate and expand their networks together.

We believe in practically outworking Proverbs 15:22 (ESV):

“Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.”

We believe that we need to—and get to—learn from others in order to steward our work well as Proverbs 19:20 states (ESV):

“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.”

We know that running a business is not easy.

We hear of so many people who feel isolated in the day-to-day and big-picture… but God didn’t create you to go at it alone.

Here are some questions to ask yourself to ensure the long-term health for you AND your business:

  • Do you have wise counsel around you? A mentor ahead of you who you can practically ask questions to, strategize with and receive correction from?

  • Do you have a Biblical community that encourages you in business and work? That widens your vision to what God is doing in and around the world (and Canada)?

  • Are you investing in your personal, professional and spiritual growth? We are learners—how are you learning in this season?

This is why we created the Networkas a possible answer to these questions: to find mentors and like-minded peers, to be continually encouraged and to learn and grow alongside others.

We see business people engaging with others and expanding their networks together. We see students accessing resources and mentors—and even future employers. And we see people in the workforce and the Church come together to have critical conversations.

Truly, we’re better together. And your work matters—no matter your age, stage or occupation.

Either way, if you join our LinkedIn-like private community, we’re here to resource you and champion you in your gifts to further the Kingdom.

So, we’ll leave you with this:

  • The Kingdom of God needs movers and shakers, and community builders.

  • We need dreamers and writers, business-minded people and creators.

  • We need business people who see the world through a lens of faith: what it can be and how we can help.

That can be you (it’s what you were made for). Keep showing up—and don’t go at it alone.
