BAM Canada Invited to Zambia

In April 2022, in collaboration with our Gold and Silver Partners—GlobalWorks and PAOC—our Co-Founder, Aubrey, was invited by WOTA’s (World Outreach Team Action) Executive Director to teach an introductory Business as Mission course to dozens of Zambians. WOTA is a non-denominational Zambian organization with a Great Commission focus, and Aubrey was invited to deliver part two in-person in July. Keep reading for Aubrey’s recap and an encouragement in global collaboration!

In the same way we endeavour to connect like-minded Canadians in missional business together through the BAM Canada Network, Zambians are now determining how best they can also become part of a growing, global Business As Mission movement. For Zambians, by Zambians.

We were so honoured to be asked to share our learnings with a group of Zambian business owners and ministry leaders who have big vision and big faith—halfway across the world. So, when an opportunity presents itself and doors open for spurring each other on—for Kingdom impact, we’ll be there.

Look at what’s happening in Zambia:

Here’s a recap of Aubrey’s collaboration trip—you can also watch his video below:

Here in Canada, we want to reach those in our communities and the least-reached for Christ—and Zambian believers are no different. No matter where you are in the world, business gives us an avenue to see Kingdom impact and transformation through a focus on the Quadruple Bottom Line.

What’s better—we’re not alone. This is a global movement. We believe in encouraging and equipping entrepreneurs, ministry leaders and business owners to lead the charge locally. They are the true heroes of this story, and we can connect, collaborate and innovate together. Truly, the possibilities are endless when we work together.

As a BAM Global Ambassador, Aubrey had the opportunity to introduce the concept of BAM and to connect Zambians who attended from across the country to BAM Southern Africa (BAMSA). BAMSA also formed around the same time as BAM Canada in 2021.

The focus of Aubrey’s week in Zambia? Being intentional about the Great Commission, which aligns with BAM Global’s Business As Mission definition. This is what we mean by being like-minded: seeing the Great Commission outworked in our daily lives, in and through our business, and integrating faith as a part of our theology of work. To make the most of our time during the week-long visit, the Director of WOTA spent a number of days making connections and arrangements for what would be some very fruitful meetings.

Here’s a brief overview of what transpired over those five days in July:

  1. Day 1: Introducing BAM at the Zambian Revival Prayer Network’s Vision Casting Conference, to 250+ local pastors in Lusaka from many denominations.

  2. Day 2: Meetings with key church leaders to help them understand the potential of BAM for their local churches and what it could mean for the entrepreneurs and business leaders in their care.

  3. Day 3: Meetings with entrepreneurs and small business leaders, which confirmed what was shared with pastors in Days 1 and 2. This was followed by a 2-hour TV interview that was broadcasted nationally and re-broadcasted a couple days later on the weekend.

  4. Day 4: Workshop day! This was an opportunity to meet those who had been involved in the Light for the Nations course, as well as the business leaders Aubrey had met online via the Introductory BAM Zoom course in April - in person!

  5. Day 5: Facilitating a BAM Recap workshop with those same entrepreneurs and business leaders. Here, participants discussed and asked questions about what they had learned during the BAM portion of the course. Additionally, they had the opportunity to share their initial plans for feedback. We loved seeing how their BAM plans will help them access the least-reached in Zambia as well as other nations.

“The real win for the week was being able to connect with like-minded Christians who are all striving to be missional in everything they do. It is encouraging to be part of a growing global movement, where we learn from each other and can celebrate what God is doing in and through our call to business. We anticipate more opportunities for continued involvement in Zambia, and to perhaps partner and collaborate in other countries that are excited to engage in BAM as well!” - Aubrey, BAM Canada Co-Founder
